WE can not afford universal healthcare or proper gear for our troops or to rebuild the freaking viaduct (or even just put in a regular road like they did in Manhattan), but we can spend 1.6 TRILLION in a few short months. And don't give me the argument that feds can't interfere with states. You read this bill and you will clearly understand how that simply doesn't matter to our Congress.
The 2000 Census determined the resident population of the United States on April 1, 2000, to be 281,421,906. If the country has increased in population around 13% like it did from 1990 to 2000, then we will get just a tad over $50 grand each. That means the government has taken or could give each of us around $50,315.00 - that is 50 THOUSAND dollars - each.
One side says - taxpayers just donated $50 grand each to the Feds. That means you were just mortgaged by your own government. This is somewhat like indentured servitude. Some may even say neo-slavery.
Other side says - Feds should give us each $50 grand if they just have it lying around = that would certainly fix the foreclosures. Wouldn't quite fix the near bankrupt state of our nation.
We are permanently in debt with no hope of ever getting out. We are going to have to work extra hard at destroying smaller countries and enslaving them in debt to keep our economy going. I think I will start using monopoly money... it will be worth about the same as our dollar pretty soon. Those of you with children can get free money by raiding the games your kids already have for cash.
Key points of the bill are:
Expand Medicaid: $87bn
If they could expand it to include all US citizens, then please do so already!
Help state governments: $79bn
There is so much ranting on this issue that I can barely see straight. Boils down to - if feds and states would not over budget and learn to say no then they would not have the problems they have now. The bloat at state level of budgets and employees is absurd. All this money and help and we still can't get a simple smile at the DMV.
Help school districts: $41bn
This is supposed to be a state issue and not a federal government issue. If we are going there, then the school systems need to federalized and standardized.
Higher unemployment benefits: $36bn
I don't necessarily disagree with this. However, Congress is the reason that many businesses fail to thrive. We regulate and tax business to death. I just paid my stupid GROSS sales State tax and am appalled yet again. I suspect my Federal taxes won't make me any happier.
Rebuild roads: $30bn
This should have been happening all along. Many of these projects are shamefully mismanaged and need to have the government step out and let real workers fix our bridges, overpasses, and VIADUCTS! We have some of the best construction companies in the entire world and their hands are tied by absurd regulations when doing government projects. Safety is a must, but if you have ever tried to understand basic permitting codes, then the government level will stun you.
Computerize medical records: $20bn
Good GOD! 20 BILLION to computerize records that are already computerized. Some computer programmers and networkers are going to make out like bandits. I will happily give them hard spankings for coming up with such a huge number to complete this task. Did the hourly rate to write code go from $45 per hour to $100,000?
Green electricity grid: $11bn
This is silly. Really? An electricity grid for 11 billion? How stupid are we. That is a starting price. A networker gets 20 billion to write code and programs but an electrical grid is on sale for 11? Ugh!
Has anyone noticed this or are we all so incapable of understanding debt in the trillions that we are numb?
My 0.02 cents... Make that Yens
