Tax Porn

Washington State is completely absurd! Apparently the only way our legislature can figure to make money when they have spent us to near bankruptcy is to tax porn. Let's not worry our little heads about trying to reduce spending or getting rid of corrupt politicians. Let's just tax anyone who wants a little joy. How would they even get this tax? Magazines and DVD's would be easy as they are in stores at retail level (a double tax as adult stores already pay a retail tax), but how would they be able to track and tax individual consumer computer internet porn? Maybe they would like a little government chip in everyone's computer so they can track your internet porn buys and tax you 18.5%...

18.5% tax on porn!

The bill reads:

"Adult entertainment materials and services" means those entertainment materials and services that are primarily oriented to an interest in sex, including but not limited to magazines, photographs, motion pictures, videotapes, videodiscs, cable television services, telephone services, audiotapes, computer programs, and paraphernalia. "Adult entertainment materials and services" does not include (a) books or magazines that contain no photographs or other graphics; or (b) motion pictures, videotapes, videodiscs, or cable television services that do not contain any explicit sex of the type that would be rated "X" using the standards existing on January 1, 2009, of the motion picture association of America, inc. Any motion picture, videotape, videodisc, cable television service, or other visual medium that contains any explicit sex of the type that would be rated "X" using these standards is considered to be primarily oriented to an interest in sex. Notwithstanding subsection (6) of this section, adult entertainment services are a sale at retail for the purposes of this chapter and chapter"
82.12 RCW.

I might have to move the House of Gord to Tribal Land...

Here is the email of the guy who wrote the bill. Please find a minute to email him about this ridiculousness of this bill:

Are you kidding? Pleasure has *always* been illegal in this country. That's why they outlawed pot, opium, MDMA, etc. etc.

You should see what they're doing to terminal cancer patients... they won't even give *them* opiates anymore. As though addiction is really an issue *after* the cancer has killed you slowly and painfully.....

And to think, people scoffed at me when I said that you can not count on the Democrats to defend adult materials.
